Impersonator

Should a man take a female pen name to try to break into the erotic romance field? I'd advise against it for a couple of reasons. First, if it comes out that you've been "impersonating" a woman, your readers are going to feel duped and betrayed, and I frankly think that's something you can never recover from. Second, as a male writer in a mostly-female genre, if your writing chops are good, you can work your y-chromosome to your advantage!

A safer bet than taking a female pen name would be to either adopt a gender-neutral pen name (which is what I did) or go by your initials, which declares, "Hey, my gender is a non-issue, look at my writing instead."
