Packing Heat 006: Setting Goals

Last Episode's assignment:

I was the lucky recipient of a random plot that involved sharks and a piece of fruit. How did I make a big, gay, last-man-on-earth porn and a sweet M/F oceanic romance out of that? Listen and find out.

I also created some characters from my junk mail folder: Basil Knight (hideous name) and Melanie Kidd.

Setting Goals

The new year is coming fast and it seems like a good time to create goals, especially writing goals, since they're so much more fun than losing weight. Even though we got random last week, I want to make sure you're NOT random when you set your goals. It's easy to fall into the trap of setting a goal like 1000 words a day or an hour a day because they're nice, round numbers. But is that really what you need?

I don't know. The key is, it depends what you're trying to achieve.

Decide on your objective first.

Create your goals keeping your objective in mind.

Your Assignment:

Figure out your objective and create three goals that relate to it. I'm working on this right now and I'm surprised at what I want and don't want, and the goals I've settled on for myself. (You'll have to check back in two weeks to see what they are!)

    Three Goals....

    1) Establish a blog, with updates every two days for three weeks

    2) Work on story "Point of the Sword" on Mon, Wed, and Fri, 1000 words a day.

    3) Work on story "Random Sanctum" (working title) on Tues and Thurs, 1000 words a day

    4) Have fun on weekends -- write one-offs, short stories wherever my mind goes.
