Packing Heat 001: Finding Gigs
| Download | Duration: 00:29:57
A few market listings I’ve used:
Erotica Readers and Writers Association
erotica-readers.com/ERA/G/Call_For_Submissions.htm
Erotic Romance Writers Forum
veinglory.8.forumer.com/
Ralan
www.ralan.com (not strictly erotica, but some adult listings)
Craigslist
www.craigslist.org (Click on a city, then check out “writing jobs” or “writing gigs.” Subscribe to an RSS feed if you want to save yourself some trouble.)
And, since no one really needs me to go all techy on RSS since I really don’t know much about it:www.rss-specifications.com/subscribe-to-feeds.htm
Your assignment, should you choose to accept it:
Look at some market listings and select a market that you’re drawn to. (Maybe the highest paying one?) Take note of the requirements for the market. Look at the word count. Research the website, if there is one. If there is nothing to research, analyze the call for entries; the editor’s tone, the suggestions he or she makes in the call.
Now pretend that you have time to write five separate, unrelated stories for this market. Take notes for each story. Write the plot of the story, the plot twists. Name your characters. Do an outline, if you’re the type of person who likes to outline. If the story’s mostly about sex, jot down what’s going to happen specifically in bed that will make the story special. Think about what kind of characters will make the sex really sparkle.
Do any of these story treatments inspire you to write? I hope so! And if you follow up on this story and finish it, you’ll have someone to pitch it to once you’re done!

I loved this podcast, and I have done the assignment. I am going to work my way through all of your podcasts to the current one, and will do all of the assignments step-by-step. Many thanks for putting this together!
